HOW TO MAKE SWEET DIY FLORAL EASTER EGGS USING TISSUE PAPER AND YOUR HOME PRINTER!

Hi beautiful  SI family, thanks for joining me today!  With Easter around the corner, I thought it would be fun to share a sweet DIY Easter Egg Project to brighten our spirits. This simple project really perked my mood and it’s also relaxing.

As a bonus, I’m sharing FREE PRINTABLES for this project which you can download at the end of this post.

I started with white eggs. I hard-boiled them so they were more ‘sturdy’ to work with. Honestly, I didn’t want to blow them out or work with them raw. That said, these are not edible after decoupaging. If you’re looking to keep these for years to come, investing in craft eggs may be the better option.

Printable Tissue Paper Easter Eggs

I remember as a kid (and into my 20’s) I loved creating Pansky Easter Eggs aka Ukrainian Easter Eggs. I really wish I still had some of them to show you because I practiced on a lot of eggs and got pretty good! My next-door neighbor was the one who introduced me to the craft. She was generous enough to let me and my little girlfriends sit at her kitchen table dying and waxing while she went about doing her laundry, cleaning, etc. There were a number of open jars with bright dyes on her kitchen counters, hot beeswax in the kistka and an open flame. Looking back she was a brave woman.

Anyway, this is a much simpler version. All you need is tissue paper, a home printer, and some decoupage glue.

I’m thrilled with how these turned out. So gorgeous and spring fresh.

DIY FLORAL EASTER EGGS

Did you know you can use your home printer to create designs on tissue paper for ANY type of decoupage project? Here’s a step by step on how I created these Floral Eggs with printable tissue.

STEP 1

I found these cute and colorful florals on Canva.  If you’d like to use them (for personal use) YOU CAN DOWNLOAD THEM AT THE END OF THIS POST.

STEP 2

I cut one sheet of tissue paper slightly smaller than my letter-sized printer paper and then used scotch tape to tape it on. The only white tissue paper I had on hand was one with tiny flecks of sparkle. I figured it would add to the Easter theme. 🙂 I inserted the paper into my printer and let it print. Before I started cutting out the florals, I made sure the ink was 100% dry.

STEP 3

I cut the floral designs out using a small pair of craft scissors making sure to get as close to the edge as possible.
TIP ~ I found it MUCH easier to cut the tissue with the letter paper still in behind it. Because the tissue is so delicate, it’s not easy to cut on its own.
Cutting out Decoupage Florals

STEP 4

Using a small artist’s brush, I applied a thin layer of Mod Podge directly on the egg exactly where I wanted to place my floral. I placed the tissue paper floral on and then lightly pressed it down with my brush.

STEP 5

Once it was in place, I gently applied another thin layer of Mod Podge over the design starting from the center of the graphic and working my way to the edges. Working from the center helps get all the wrinkles out so the tissue lays perfectly smooth on the egg.
TIP #1 ~ Work with half the egg at a time so you have a dry side to lay it on. Once one side is dry, work on the other half. The first egg I did I tried doing the entire design all at once and I had to replace a few florals.
TIP #2 ~ When using decoupage and thin tissue papers, it’s best not to over rub while adhering. The faster and lighter the application the better because otherwise the paper can tear and/or the color can start to bleed.

  14. Hi Denise. I’m absolutely loving these sweet little Easter eggs. They’re so pretty and cheerful! Your story of making Ukrainian eggs as a young girl brought back memories for me. What I remember most about creating Easter eggs was the time I spent with my sister (and how her eggs were always more beautiful than mine). Lol. Thank you for sharing your crafty eggs and for reminding me of happy, carefree times:)

    • Hi Marcia! Yes, the printer ink holds up really well with the Mod Podge. The only challenge I had was on my first egg. I tried doing the entire egg all in one shot and brushed on too much product… brushing way too much and too hard. The ink bled slightly and then I ended up tearing one of the florals in half. Once I used less Mod Podge/brushing – easy peasy! 🙂 Happy Easter Marcia and you take good care as well. XOXO
